Deep Creek Vintage: You do not want to miss this place !!

OK I know this is a auction review blog but today when I stopped at my local flea market which is on route 1 in spotsylvania Virginia the old house there had been turned into a antique store about 5 months ago. Well I had been meaning to stop in and see what they were about their prices and merchandise and today I did and thought I would write a little blog about what I thought of the place. Well in my opinion this is one of the nicest shops in town. It is an upscale shop so it is not yard sale prices but if you are a collector and know the value of items then you will see they have very competitive prices. This place is beautiful it is set up with a lot of stuff but decorated beautifully.  Clean gets a great score I do not know how they keep it looking so nice. This is a MUST go to shop for anyone decorating a home. If you are a home interior decorator this is about as close to a one stop shop as you get. The amount of quality stuff in this place is tremendous. I am someone who has been around antiques my entire life and this is one of those places that has items I have never seen. If you are looking for rare unusual or just decorative you have to check this place out. They carry a nice mix of vintage, antique and modern decorative items. The lady running the place was as nice as could be. All around I think this is a great shop to visit. I was trying to think of something I didn't like about this place and only thing i could come up with is I did not have more money to spend.
Looks like they are open 7 days a week I am sure a few days closed do to the holidays.
They are located @ 9110 Jefferson Davis HWY
the number is (549)623-3258

King William auctions 07-14-12

King William auctions had a big box lot sale today. The auction was moving to a new location and this was stuff that didn't get moved. This was a box lot sale and what are box lots sales junk junk junk....... ahhhh but what good junk it was. If you like a sit down auction and were looking for  $350,000 Tiffany paper clip well this auction probably wasn't for you but then again who knows what treasure lay in the bottom of boxes? I went to this auction thinking typical box lots you know coffee cups and flower vase with tons of chipped plates or other vintage dishes.  I was very happily surprised to find lots of nice box lots filled with some nice items. This was a good auction lots and lots of bargains to be had I would say at this auction if you didn't find a treasure it was only because you didn't bid on anything. Dean seemed to be in a very good mood today and I think really made it a fun enjoyable auction. I thought prices today were reasonable to cheap and were perfect for small thrift stores  ebayers and flea marketers. If you have never been to one of Deans auctions give him a try, he usually does a good job of moving thru stuff and today he did a wonderful job of moving the huge amount of product. Another little note on Dean is that he has a good reputation of being a honest guy. So check him out sometime I think you will have a fun day.

06-03-12 Durham in Tappahannock

Another Sunday at Durhams auction in Tappahannock. This was an auction packed full of stuff with tons of fishing gear, baby dolls, toys and yard equipment. Mr Quinn wasn't there today so Mike Collins and William Dunn did a lot of the auctioning with of course Mr Durham. I almost want to say this wasn't a high end auction but I don't know if that would be the truth because the lawn equipment was made by John Deere and Stihl and a lot of nice fishing equipment from Penn, Daiwa and Mitchell. This was one of those auction where I think everyone walked away with a little something. There were tons of table lots and box lots. Even though William and Mike are fairly new to being auctioneers I can really see the improvement and if you did not know they were new they might fool you, I have seen much more experienced auctioneers that were not as good. Something else besides the jokes laughter good deals and just all out good time I would like to mention about Durhams is that I have never seen a ghost bid there (though there are sometimes left bids they are legit because I have seen the people leave the bids) and I think this is a very good honest auction house. The staff at Durham from the lady who serves food, the cashier and all the people who either help hold things up or help the auction in other ways are a top notch crew. He has a few really nice auction auction coming up one of which is at a shopping center and has what I have been told is some of the best high end furniture and other great items.

Jax auctions 6-2-2012 Warrenton

What a beautiful day for an auction. This auction was at a house because where she usually has it was having some work done. Jackie Sellers is the auctioneer and  though she isn't the most experienced auctioneer you have to love her because she has such a great personality, she treats everyone like she has known them forever. Jackie does not have a lot of auctions and doesn't have a auction house usually she rents the armory in Warrenton. The weather was great today even though it was a bit windy. Like i said Jackie is not the most experienced auctioneer and this is not the most professional type auction but a great time with great deals to be had. Jackie had a good bit of stuff to auction today, a lot of tools and yard items but also glassware furniture and miscellaneous items. She had a bigger crowd then usual i think and some of the tools and stuff went a bit hi in my opinion but some of the furniture went low, but isn't that how it is at auctions some hi some low? She didn't do a bad job of moving threw the stuff and her help did a basically good job. The one complaint I did have was she had a young girl holding up items and i thought the girl was a bit rough with the merchandise, other then that and not being the most organised auction I think it was a nice day and I think most everyone got a little something.

05-24-12 Durham in Tappahannock

I know I know I am a slacker and didn't keep up with this blog and the auctions. One of the reasons I slacked off a bit is because I was mostly going to Durhams auctions and didn't want keep repeating myself. Last night I did go to Durham's auction they had it Thursday night instead of Sunday due to the holiday. Well it was not one of his high end auctions actually it was a lower end auction but hey that means ya get stuff cheaper right?.It was good as usual not a big crowd. Some updates I should mention are that William Dunn and Mike (not sure his last name) the two guys that hold stuff up well they have over winter both got their auctioneers license and have been doing a bit of auctioning there at Durhams. Something else to note is that they just added George to their team.  George is a good guy and he hustles he is a great addition to Durhams already great staff. Durham does have a couple nice auction coming in June you can check auctionzip for details.

10-22-11 Grindstaff onsite auction Fredericksburg

A little bit chilly but a nice day. This onsite auction was in a small crowded piece of property but was organized pretty well. Grindstaff auctions tend to be higher end stuff and this one was no different. This living estate was full of some very very nice pieces especially furniture.I think this was a good auction because a wide price range of different items. Lots of B.F. Goodrich stuff. Tho Mr. Grindstaff isn't as out going and friendly as some auctioneers i will say he sure can move some products and is very well organized. There were some deals to be had at this auction and I think everyone probably went home with a little something.
