10-30-11 Durham auction in Tappahannock

Here we go again another fun Sunday in tappahannock at Durhams auction in tappahannock. As usual a lot of fun in tappahannock on a Sunday. If you have not read my other posts let me tell you that this is a fun auction a clean building and a good time. This week was not one of his better auctions with not much good product but this happens from time to time with any auction house. This is a place i go to a lot. They have 2 auctioneers Mr.Durham and Mr.Quinn and they go thru product quickly. This week was not one of their best auctions but still not a bad way to spend a chilly Sunday afternoon. If ya live in the area and haven't been here put it on your to do list.

10-22-11 Grindstaff onsite auction Fredericksburg

A little bit chilly but a nice day. This onsite auction was in a small crowded piece of property but was organized pretty well. Grindstaff auctions tend to be higher end stuff and this one was no different. This living estate was full of some very very nice pieces especially furniture.I think this was a good auction because a wide price range of different items. Lots of B.F. Goodrich stuff. Tho Mr. Grindstaff isn't as out going and friendly as some auctioneers i will say he sure can move some products and is very well organized. There were some deals to be had at this auction and I think everyone probably went home with a little something.

10-16-11 Durham in Tappahannock

Well this is another one of Durhams Sunday auction if ya read my blog you know I go to this most Sundays.Like i have said before this is a nice place cozy clean and Mr.Durham and Mr.Quinn are both very good auctioneers, they keep a lively fun atmosphere and roll things along pretty fast. This week wasn't a huge crowd and so there were some deals to be had.I usually don't get much here because the prices are usually a bit high for me but to my surprise this week I did well.Always a good selections of stuff from kitchen items to tool and from many time periods. The worse thing about this is seating is sometimes scarce but this week wasn't bad.Always a fun time to be had on a Sunday afternoon and like with any auction ya never know what may show up and what kinda great deals you may run across.

10-15-11 King William Auction House onsite in Aylett

Well this was an onsite auction and a living estate. The weather wasn't too bad a little windy. This auction was filed with power tools mostly craftsman. They had everything from radial arm saws to table top scroll saw and most have had 10 circular saws. Most the tools were wood working tools and looked to be in very nice condition and surprisingly they weren't going too high. There was also some vintage tools planes wrenches etc a lot of this stuff was not in as good of condition. The furniture though not high end was older furniture and most of it went at give away prices. There was only one auctioneer and he went at a good pace but by end of the day was still lots of box lots mostly glassware. The box lots were nothing i was really interested in tho i did pick up a few things.

10-09-11 Cox and Graves auction at the Fredericksburg fairgrounds

This is a auction I go to just about every time they have it which is once or twice a month. The auctioneers Bo Cox and Glen Graves are both good auctioneers. They had their usual stuff outside cars and trucks and boats and mowers inside the first building was the usual array of flea market yard sale type stuff. The stuff in the first building is sold in box lots and sometimes groups of boxes and you can really get some good deals sometimes if ya find a treasure in a box.Between the first and second building is a area with tools tool boxes mowers and other yard type tools and stuff like tires etc.In the second building is where they have the better glassware and furniture and anything that is a little better quality. They also almost always have guns and coins for sale. This is a big auction that starts at 10:00am and ends in the afternoon. They really go thru a bunch of product here. I did not see anything i wanted this time and left before auction got started so I can't really say how it went. One thing that is good is they usually do start on time and like i said can move pretty quick tho with the amount of product it sometimes seems like it takes forever to get to the items you want.As with most auctions that sell coins or guns they both seem to take a lot of time to sell. If you have some free time on a Sunday when they are having it, it's worth stopping by and seeing what they have.

10-08-11 Kathy Shumate onsite auction in Summerduck

Wow another beautiful day for an auction a sunny warm day in Summerduck. This was an onsite auction and to be honest did not have much of anything i was interested in.Kathy did a good job of trying to go thru the product and to get good prices but the stuff just wasn't that great most of it was just stuff from sheds not old enough to be real good and not new enough to be good either. There was a small crowd and if you did see something you wanted I think most things went reasonable.I did not stay long here because nothing much i wanted. This is one of those auctions ya can't blame the auctioneer for the product was just what nobody from the family of the estate wanted.I definitely would not judge her by this auction.

10-5-2011 Tillmans auction in Midlothian Virginia

Well second day at a Midlothian estate that was packed full of stuff. The weather made for a nice day for an auction. The people at the food vending were some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. It seems that the auctioneers have a very hard time getting started on time here, both of the auctions were considerably late which is not good for those of us not local to the auction. The younger auctioneer Brian I think his name is looks to have a good future in the auction business I think he goes thru product pretty quick. The thing I noticed about him is he does not sell Bibles or the American flag he gives them away with other items, some said that made him a bit too religious for auctioning but me personally I like to see someone who isn't afraid to stand up for what they believe in.There was a lot of product again today at this auction and some went cheap some went high. The 2 things I didn't care for is how Bucky takes items out of box lots and sells them separately, so if you do not pay close attention what was in the box when you looked probably isn't anymore and also it makes the auction drag on when he pulls something from a box lot and it takes them 5 minutes to get a $2 bid. Something I did like is that they a lot of times will spread items from a box on a card table, this can be good or bad because now everyone knows what was in there.I also want to mention Mike one of the guys they have holds stuff up and organizes the auction, he is one of the best I have seen he knows product and really hustles and keeps things moving, without him we might still be there waiting for them to get stuff sold. But even with the things I didn't care for all and all I would say it was a good auction and a fun time. Also I should mention that both times i have been to their auction they had the correct number of items and amount when I went to pay.

10-2-2011 W.F. Durham Auctioneer in Tappahannock, Va

Another great Sunday auction at one of my favorite auction houses. I go to this auction house quite a lot tho the product dos tend to go high most the time when you can get something it's usually very nice. The building was kept at a comfortable temperature but did get a little cool. This is a very clean auction house with great staff who work well together. The bathrooms are clean and the food is good.I love how they do things here there are two auctioneers Mr Quinn and Mr Durham (Binkie) and one will auction a item and then the other will auction a item this keeps the item moving at a nice pace.Mr Durham is very funny and the spirit is always good at this place. They always seem to have good product .Wanda who does the paperwork really can keep up with the bids. You don't see many missed bids here. They know their product and if they see a chip or crack disclose it.Sometimes the crowd is a bit big for the building but this week was a nice crowd but not over crowded. We always seem to have a fun time here.

10-1-2011 Tillmans auction in Midlothian Virginia

10-1-2011 On-site auction in Midlothian Virginia. This auction was done by Tillmans auction and was the first time for me at one of their auctions. It was a rather cooler day but the rain did stay away. There was a great variety of merchandise. This auction will be finished on the second day which is Wednesday. The glassware went for a fair price I wouldn't say cheap but wasn't over bid either. There was a lot of red coin dot glass and some nice carnival glass and even a few Northwood pieces. There was a good selections of prints which I don't know much about but seem to sell very well. The tools sold a bit high which i see a lot of at auctions. There was a 55 Chevy Nomad project car which I think brought about $4500. There was a small amount of firearms and some coins both which always seem to do well at auction.Being my first time at this auction companies auction I would give them a great rating. Very professional staff. The signed me in quickly and handle everything very efficiently. They did seem to know the product very well and they sold it at a nice pace for the most part. They had 2 auctioneers one would sell for a while then the other.I was later told this was the younger auctioneers first auction but I think this must have been a joke because he was very good tho he missed a couple bids,I blame some of this on a crowd that for some reason like to bid after he said sold and were slow to raise their cards. The older auctioneer went quick knew his product was funny and kept auction moving. They kept a fun atmosphere and were able to move quickly. If you haven't been to one of their auctions do so.
